A shape array joins multiple sensor segments and converts each segment’s tilt and length into a displacement profile. Selection should not rely on one accuracy number; depth, segment spacing, environment and acquisition method matter together.

1. Define Borehole Depth and the Stable Reference

Slope boreholes generally pass the potential slip surface and include a stable reference section. With 50cm segments the RT-1010 reaches 200m; with 100cm segments it reaches 400m. The lightweight RT-1015 is recommended within 60m, with a maximum of 100m. Above 60m, confirm power, communications and installation conditions with the technical team.

2. Segment Length Sets Spatial Resolution

Shorter segments describe localized movement in greater detail but require more nodes, joints and acquisition capacity. Longer segments suit overall trends in deep boreholes. Select spacing from the smallest deformation zone the design must resolve.

3. Separate Tilt Accuracy from Displacement Stability

Tilt accuracy describes each sensor; displacement stability describes accumulated string output. The high-precision RT-1010 specifies 0.005° tilt accuracy and stability better than ±1mm@50m. The standard version specifies 0.05° and better than ±3mm@50m.

4. Check Long-Term Water Pressure

The standard RT-1010 is rated to 2MPa and a 4.5MPa high-pressure version is available. Deep dam bodies, underwater foundations and high-water boreholes require pressure, sealing and cable configuration to be confirmed before ordering.

5. Standardize Installation and Baselines

Record axes, segment IDs, depth, initial readings and field photographs. Rigid mechanical installation, consistent sampling and temperature compensation are as important as nominal accuracy for comparable long-term records.

6. Choosing Between RT-1010, RT-1015 and RT-1020

Model Monitoring arrangement Selection priorities
RT-1010 Shape Array A multi-segment array for displacement, settlement or convergence according to the installation arrangement Coverage, segment spacing, accuracy version, water pressure and optional functions; different arrangements serve different measurement tasks
RT-1015 Lightweight Shape Array Field-assembled segments for displacement and tilt in shallow-to-medium-depth boreholes Lightweight installation; recommended within 60m, maximum 100m. Above 60m, confirm power, data links and installation conditions
RT-1020 In-place Inclinometer Fixed sensors at selected depths; tilt and sensor spacing support horizontal displacement analysis Key depths, spacing, mounting and initial reference for long-term monitoring at selected layers

Compare RT-1010 and RT-1015 when a multi-segment array along the borehole is required. Consider RT-1020 when selected depths are the priority. Ground conditions, the potential slip surface, expected movement and the monitoring design also inform the choice.

7. Information to Prepare for Selection

  • Monitored object, borehole depth, diameter and geological information;
  • Movement locations, directions and sensor spacing to be resolved;
  • Groundwater, expected pressure and mounting conditions;
  • Power, communications, acquisition interval and existing system interfaces.
